For a long time I believed I didn’t need much space. I called it modesty. Professionalism. Sometimes even reason.

It took me years to see what was really behind it: a quiet belief that many women know without ever having put it into words. And then AI arrived, the biggest and fastest technology wave of my career. This time I recognised the voice that said “not yet”. And I knew it would not have the last word.

What this book is about

This book grew out of four decades of riding technology waves and out of my own inner journey. It is not a technical manual. It is about what happens inside us when we face something new, and how women can step into the AI era with courage instead of waiting for permission.

What you will find inside

The first wave. Cape Town, 1981, the birth of the PC, and the lesson that never left me.

The inner glass ceiling. The ceiling we carry ourselves, and why it says both “you are not good enough” and “you are too much”.

Waiting has a price. What we lose while we wait for the right moment, and why waiting is never neutral.

The North Star. Why a new identity achieves more than any amount of analysing our blocks.

Why women need each other. What happens when women learn together, and why visibility creates permission.

Your wave. The first small, concrete step that changes everything.

Who this book is for

For the woman who senses that a wave is coming, and hesitates because she has learned that riding waves is for others. You don’t need to be perfect to ride it. You only need to begin.
